4th of July Thumbprint Craft
Let’s celebrate the 4th of July and summer with this easy 4th of July thumbprint craft. This is a fun craft that doesn’t require too many supplies. Any thumbprint craft is great for preschool and kindergarten-aged children.
Materials Needed for the 4th of July Day Thumbprint Craft:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Finger paint
- Star Shapes ( free template below)
- Tape
Craft Set Up
Start by finding a good place to set up this craft. I like to use a plastic tablecloth over my table to make the clean up easier. Next print out the free template on a thick piece of paper or card stock.

Once the image is printed cut it out and tape the stars to the paper you want to use for your project. We used white paper with red and blue paint.
Another option is to use red or blue paper and the opposite color paint.
Now let your little one dip their thumb in the paint and dab it around the start shape. Make sure you cover all around the star so you can really see the shape. When you remove the stars you will see the outline of the paint in the shape of the star.
We were able to use the star templates several times to make quite a few art projects.
Advanced Thumbprint Option
When you cut out the start template be careful to only cut out the star with only one cut into the paper. Now you can tape the opening closed and use the template as a stencil. I taped the stencil on another sheet of paper and we used our thumbprint to fill in the star shape.
If you have glitter you can outline the shape with glue and add some glitter for a fun affect.
Pro Tip
Make sure you have a rag or paper towel ready for paint covered hands!
