Paper Lantern 4th of July Kid Craft
Today I am sharing how to make a paper lantern 4th of July kid craft. This craft is easy and fun for all ages!
A paper lantern is a fun way to decorate for the 4th of July. My kids love to make decorations and add them to our backyard or their bedroom.
This is a fun way to add some festive decor for free! Assuming you have a few simple craft supplies sitting around your home.
Paper Lantern 4th of July Kid Craft Supplies:
- Scissors
- 3 Pieces of Construction Paper; Red, White, and Blue
- Glue Gun and Glue
- String
Start with folding your red piece of paper in half the long way.
Once the paper is folded you will draw lines along the fold about one inch apart. Now cut the lines removing a tiny amount of the red paper. Make sure you don’t cut too close to the open edge. Leave about 1 to 2 inches space from the cut to the edge.
This is what the red paper should look like when it is opened back up.
Now glue the red paper onto the blue solid piece of construction paper. Make sure the red paper edge is about 1/2 inch down from the end of the blue paper.
I like using a glue gun because it dries instantly, but you could use any type of glue.
Once the red paper is glued to the blue paper, you will now glue the ends together forming a cylinder shape.
Now cut a long skinny strip of white paper and glue that over the seem where the red and blue paper meet.
Finish the project by gluing a piece of ribbon on the inside edge on both sides of the lantern to form a handle.
Repeat this process to make a group of lanterns to decorate for the 4th of July.
